The Deity of God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, is a fundamental Bible doctrine that is consistently attacked by every lost person in the world. The Bible says in 1 Thess. 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. This is exactly what we will do and we will only use the Authorized King James Bible to prove it. I'm sure that you aren't interested in my opinion any more that I would be interested in your opinion. In order to prove something, we must have an absolute final authority or there will just be endless opinionated remarks about the subject. With that in mind we will start with the Lord Jesus Christ Himself claiming Deity.
Jesus claimed Deity.
John 4:25, 26 The woman saith unto him, I know
that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell
us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak
unto thee am he.
Jesus is saying
here that He is the coming Messiah, as in:
Dan. 9:25, 26 Know therefore and understand,
that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem
unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven
weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and
the wall, even in troublous times. 26 And after threescore and two weeks
shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself:
and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and
the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the
end of the war desolations are determined.
Here He says that
He is the Son of God:
John 9:35-37 Jesus heard that they had cast
him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe
on the Son of God? 36 He answered and said,
Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? 37 And Jesus said unto him,
Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh
with thee.
By Him saying that He's the Son
of God makes himself equal with God:
John 5:18 Therefore the Jews sought the more
to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said
also that God was his Father, making himself equal
with God.
In this verse, Jesus
is saying He is the same as the Father:
John 10:30 I and
my Father are one.
These two verses
show that Jesus as the Word was with the Father at the beginning:
John 1:1 In the beginning
was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 And the Word
was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full
of grace and truth.
Here is the Lord
Jesus Christ coming back at the end of the Tribulation and He is called
the "Word".
Revelation 19:13 "And he was clothed with a
vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The
Word of God."
Who can GIVE eternal
life but the God of the universe? Jesus said:
John 10:28 And I
give unto them eternal life; and they shall
never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Jesus is the image
of God the Father, the Father is in Jesus and Jesus is in the Father.
John 14:9-10 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been
so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that
hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the
Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father,
and the Father in me? the words that I speak
unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth
in me, he doeth the works.
Liar if you don't
believe it.
1 John 2:22 "Who is a liar
but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ?
He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son."
In order to understand
this verse, we must find out who or what is "the Christ". Look at what
the bible says in the genealogy of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 1:16 "And Jacob begat Joseph the husband
of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ."
Jesus is His human
name as in:
Matthew 1:25 "And knew her not till she had
brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS."
Christ is His title,
which means "Anointed One". Since Satan is said to be "anointed" (Ez. 28:14)
also; the Holy Spirit is careful to point out that there is more than one
"Christ":
Luke 2:26 And it was revealed unto him by the
Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the
Lord’s Christ.
Acts 4:26 The kings of the earth stood up,
and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his
Christ.
John 20:30,31 And many other signs truly did
Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus
is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have
life through his name.
Notice that the distinction of saying the Lord's Christ is indicating there is another Christ. So it is at the name of "Jesus" that every knee will bow, Phil. 2:9,10, not "Christ". Satan is "a" Christ, but not the "Lord's Christ". As "a" Christ, he will take over the position given to Jesus Christ in the Tribulation, 2 Thess. 2:1-6, Rev. 13:1-18.
If you continue
to deny it you will die in your sins and go to Hell.
John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye
shall die in your sins: for if ye believe
not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
The context of "I
am he" is:
John 8:19 Then said they unto him, Where is
thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if
ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
The Pharisees, verse 13, knew who Joseph His
step father was, so Jesus was talking about God the Father, that is why
He said,
"I am he"; the Father manifest in the flesh,
1 Tim. 3:16. Also:
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily,
I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
The "I am" is
the reference to the one that talked to Moses at the burning bush.
Ex. 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I
AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children
of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
Here are some verses
that show God was in Christ, Christ is in God, we are in Christ and Christ
is in us. Jesus is God manifest in the flesh. (My comments are in parentheses)
1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God
(Jesus) is come, and hath given us an understanding,
that we may know him (God) that is true, and
we are in him (God) that is true, even in
his Son Jesus Christ. This (Jesus) is the
true God, and eternal life.
1 John 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
2 Corinthians 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
Colossians 2:9 For in him (Jesus)
dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
The word "Godhead" indicates there are
more than one, like a Trinity.
Colossians 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
The Apostle Paul
said Jesus is God.
1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great
is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in
the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto
the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
This is plainly saying
that Jesus is God
Romans 9:5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom
as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over
all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
The Angel of the Lord
said Jesus is God.
Matt. 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child,
(Jesus)
and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his (Jesus)
name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is,
God
with us
Jehovah God shows
us that Jesus is God. The context shows God is speaking, verse 1-9.
Zech. 12:10 And I(Jehovah
God) will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants
of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall
look upon me (God) whom they have pierced,
and they shall mourn for him, (Jesus) as one
mourneth for his only son, and shall be in
bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
God the Father says Jesus
is God.
Psalms 45:6-7 "Thy throne, O
God, (Jesus) is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is
a right sceptre. [7] Thou (Jesus) lovest righteousness,
and hatest wickedness: therefore God, (Jesus)
thy God (God the Father), hath anointed thee
with the oil of gladness above thy fellows."
Hebrews 1:8 "But unto the Son (Jesus)
he (God the Father) saith, Thy throne, O God,
(Jesus)
is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy
kingdom."
In order to establish the doctrine of the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, we will also have to show that there is definitely a "Trinity". Some say that the word "Trinity" was coined by the Roman Catholic Church. This isn't true, In A.D. 181, Theophilus of Antioch used the term in it's Greek form, "Trias". Then Tertullian (190-211) used the word in it's Latin form "Trinitas" in about 200 A.D. The Roman Catholic Church didn't begin until about 325 A.D.
I. There are definitely three persons in the Trinity.
A. The Father is called
a person:
Heb 1:1-3 God,
who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers
by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his
Son (Jesus), whom he (God) hath appointed
heir of all things, by whom (Jesus) also he
(God) made the worlds; 3 Who (Jesus)
being the brightness of his (God) glory, and
the express image of his (God) person,
and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself
purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
B. The Son is a person:
2 Cor. 2:10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I
forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave
it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of
Christ;
C. The Holy Spirit is never specifically called a person, however, He has personality traits.
1. He can be grieved:
Eph. 4:30 And grieve
not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of
redemption.
2. He can be insulted:
Heb. 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose
ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of
God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified,
an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit
of grace?
3. He can be lied to:
Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath
Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost,
and to keep back part of the price of the land?
II. Places where they are named.
Matthew 3:16-17 "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: [17] And lo a voice from heaven, (God the Father) saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Matthew 28:19 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"
John 14:16 "And I (Jesus) will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;"
2 Corinthians 13:14 "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen."
III. Each is called God.
a. The Father:
John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth,
but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of
man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father
sealed.
1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge
of
God the Father, through sanctification
of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ:
Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
b. The Son:
Hebrews 1:8 But unto the Son
he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and
ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
c. The Holy Ghost:
Acts 5:3,4 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath
Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost,
and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was
it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power?
why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou
hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
IV. Each is called Lord.
a. The Father:
Jeremiah 16:21 Therefore, behold, I will this
once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might;
and they shall know that my name is The LORD.
b. The Son:
1 Cor 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand,
that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that
no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but
by the Holy Ghost.
c. The Holy Ghost:
2 Cor 3:17 Now the Lord
is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
V. Places where one means more than one.
Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man
leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife:
and they shall be one flesh.
Genesis 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the
people is one, and they have all one
language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained
from them, which they have imagined to do.
1 Kings 22:13 And the messenger that was gone
to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words
of the prophets declare good unto the king with one
mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them,
and speak that which is good.
John 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest
me I have given them; that they
may be one, even as we are one:
Acts 4:32 And the multitude
of them that believed were of one heart
and of one soul: neither said any of them
that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all
things common.
1 Cor 3:8 Now he that
planteth and he that watereth are one:
and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
VI. Plural pronouns
Genesis 1:26 And God
said, Let us make man in our
image, after our likeness: and let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over
the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that
creepeth upon the earth.
Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the
Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?
Then said I, Here am I; send me.
VII. God the Father is liken to a soul.
Psalms 11:5 The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
VIII. God the Father has a shape and it's not the same as Jesus'
John 5:37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
IX. The following will show that Jesus had the same divine attributes as God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.
(Omniscient) Definition: Knows all things and is perfect in knowledge.
God the Father
- Acts 15:18 "Known unto God are all
his works from the beginning of the world."
Psa. 147:5 Great is our Lord,
and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
Rom. 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of
the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable
are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
God the Son - Mark
11:2-6 "And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against
you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon
never man sat; loose him, and bring him. [3] And if any man say unto you,
Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of
him; and straightway he will send him hither. [4] And they went
their way, and
found the colt tied by the
door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. [5] And
certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the
colt? [6] And
they said unto them even as Jesus had
commanded: and they let them go."
Luke 5:22 "But when Jesus perceived
their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your
hearts?"
John 2:24-25 "But Jesus
did not commit himself unto them, because he knew
all men, [25] And needed not that any should testify of man: for
he knew what was in man."
God the Holy Spirit - (1 Corinthians 2:11 "For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God."
(Omnipotent) Definition: All powerful.
God the Father: Psalms 33:9 "For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast."
God the Son: Matthew 28:18 "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth."
God the Holy Ghost: Luke 1:35 "And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."
(Omnipresent) Definition: All presence everywhere
God the Father: Jeremiah 23:23-24 "Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? [24] Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD."
God the Son: Matthew 18:20 (KJV) "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."
God the Holy Ghost: Psalms 139:7-10 "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? [8] If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. [9] If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; [10] Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me."
Conclusion: We conclude that Jesus is God, for He possesses the exclusive attributes of God. He is eternal (Micah 5:2, Col. 1: 17). He is unchangeable (Heb. 13:8). He is omnipotent (Luke 8:24). He is omnipresent (Matt. 28:20, John 3:13). (Notice how that verse has been messed with in all the new "Bibles.") They all attack the verses that deal with Jesus Christ.) He is omniscient (Mark 11:2-6, John 2:24, Luke 5:22). He is holy (Mark 1:24). He is sinless (I Pet. 2:22). He is just (Acts 3:14). He is a righteous judge (Acts 17:31). He is loving (John 15:13). He is merciful (Titus 3:5). He is faithful (2 Tim. 2:3).
The five works of God are ascribed to Jesus Christ:
1. Creation (John 1:3)
2. Preservation (Heb. 1:3)
3. Forgiveness (Luke 7:48)
4. Raising the dead (John 6:39)
5. Judgment (John 5:22)
Now, If Jesus wasn't "God manifest in the flesh," He was not any kind of a teacher to listen to or an example to follow and He died for His own sins, therefore He couldn't be my saviour. I conclude from the evidence above that Jesus Christ WAS God manifest in the flesh, therefore, the only Jesus that can save you from Hell is the Jesus that was God manifest in the flesh. That is why 1 Cor. 15:1-4 says that the death, burial and resurrection is according to the scriptures. If the Jesus that supposedly saved you wasn't God manifest in the flesh, then you have believed on another Jesus, received another spirit, accepted another gospel and you are still in your sins.
(2 Corinthians 11:3-4 "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. [4] For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him."
Receive the Lord Jesus Christ today or He will say to you one day; (Matthew 25:41 "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:"
Psa 119:128 Therefore I esteem all thy precepts
concerning all things to be right;
and I hate every false way.
